Beginners Running Group
Yahoo It’s that time again. Our 2025 Beginners Running Course dates have been set. Beginners group is the ideal group for non-runners who are keen to start running and not sure where to begin, or if you are returning to running after a break, now is the perfect time.
Go ahead make that decision to join this amazing group who will all be trying to achieve the same goal, so there will always be someone to support and encourage you.
Our beginner’s course will start on the 29th April and will run on both Tuesdays and Fridays from 9.30am- 10.30am over the period of 9 weeks. Our final Friday ends with a run to the Summit of Mauao on the 4th July. What a celebration that will be!!
Our wonderful group leaders will set the plan for you to achieve this goal. They will lead you, motivate and encourage you. You will do the tough work but as part of the club there will always be others on hand to help as well.
If you'd like to join our next Beginners group, we suggest you get ready now by walking for 45 min to an hour, at least-3 times a week, and maybe start to add in a bit of running in with your walking. Hills are great, if you can walk up Mauao regularly it will make your transition to 'runner' a much easier one for both your body and your mind.
We meet at the Mount Maunganui Scout Hall on May Street. There is no pre-registration required, just turn up on the day in your running gear and bring your enthusiasm. We'll do the rest.
We are very lucky to have two babysitters at the hall who will mind your children while you run. The cost is just $3 per child, $6 for two children or $7 for three children or more. You will need to fill in the babysitting book and pay that morning in cash or you can purchase a 10-visit babysitting card for $30 cash or online into account below. It's a good idea to bring your child’s morning tea and a favourite toy. If your child is little, please bring them in a pushchair or buggy.
Our club subscription is $50 for our financial year (1 Sep-31 Aug), payable in the first week of the Beginner's course. To Register as a new member of the club visit our homepage of this website, and using the "register as new member" button. To pay online our account is 03 0374 0090119 00 and use your name and 'runner' as a reference for your online payment.
We usually start at 9.25am, so if you have children, we suggest you be at the Scout Hall on May St early enough (around 9.15am) then you can sign in and settle yourself and/ or your child(ren) before we begin.
